nl141LLANDUDNO PRIMARY SCHOOL’S ECO AUDIT – GREAT RESULTS FOR OUR SCHOOL’S ECO-CLUB.

On Wednesday 14 June, our Grade 3 girls from Eco Club; Savanna Klaff, Starcey Mutematsaka, Ella Hickey and Faye Schniewind, spoke at the Thrive Eco Hero presentation at Kronendal Primary School. The girls spoke well and described all the details of ‘greening’ our school – Energy, Water, Waste, Food Production and Biodiversity. Afterwards, the Eco Auditors discussed the top schools in each category. Llandudno Primary was mentioned for our successful 3-bin waste system and litter-free grounds, our low energy consumption, our clear and effective signage around the school, our abundant vegetable boxes and our efficient water usage, and our resident snake of course! Well done to the Eco Club team, the eco teachers Mrs Klaff and Mrs Beukes, Mr Coetzee and his dedicated ground staff, who all worked together to make our school a leader in going ‘green’. We are entering into two more categories, the enviro-art and enviro-quiz. We are currently coming in the top three!

REQUEST: PLEASE COLLECT AND SEND IN ANY COLOURFUL PLASTIC BOTTLE-TOPS AND LIDS TO SCHOOL FROM NEXT TERM.

nl142HORIZON MATHS COMPETITION AWARDS

Llandudno Primary wishes to congratulate our pupils for their remarkable achievements celebrated at the awards ceremony on Friday night, 9 June at the Baxter Theatre. We are enormously proud of the years of diligence in Maths shown by our children that has now culminated in them doing so well in these tests and being able to compete with the top Maths brains in South Africa.

The Western Cape held the top 8 of the top 10 positions nationwide and Llandudno was extremely well represented this year with 9 pupils winning awards. This is a remarkable feat for such a small school as the larger schools represented at the event are 3 to 4 times our size. The fact that 51 000 pupils wrote the test and we featured in the top 200 in the country is even more testimony to the exceptional standard of Maths the pupils are being exposed to at Llandudno.

LPS positions in the top 200 in the Western Cape were:

· Nicolas Yolland 47th

· Nikita Erni 55th

· Ethan Mattison 81st

· Jayden Carmichael 113th

· Maisy Weston 125th

· Connor McCreadie 144th

· Joshua Camara-Buswell 181st

· Jesse Klaff 194th

LLANDUDNO FIELD

Llandudno parents and children may be concerned about the school losing its beautiful field over the very dry and prolonged Summer of 2016/2017. We are consulting experts in laying school fields and golf courses and looking into many options to sustain a new field over the next few predicted dry seasons as this would become essential to avoid the same expensive scenario each Summer. We ask all families to be patient as we explore the best options and timing for our situation.
