Welcome to
Llandudno Primary School

Be the best you can be!

At Llandudno Primary we strive to make this journey a happy and successful one.

OUR UNIQUE LLANDUDNO PRIMARY SCHOOL

Llandudno Primary had very humble origins, housing only 7 children in the servant’s quarters of a house in Bosman Avenue. This small family-orientated feel has remained and the warmth and friendliness of this ‘home-from-home’ environment is still the way we continue to approach education. This atmosphere and ethos is what parents hold dear and the reason they bring their children here. We hope you will share that sentiment when your child is at Llandudno. Llandudno Primary is a school founded and started by local parents who felt the need for their own school.

Llandudno Primary is a beach cultured, progressive primary school which encourages learners to explore and appreciate their local environment. The ability to debate, express themselves in speech, arts and culture with confidence and to think independently is emphasized. The combined efforts of the child, family and school make up the circle of education, while community participation is also encouraged. Teachers work closely with the school families and thereby create a ‘small caring family’ ethos. We believe this builds security and confidence.

Many individual and team extra-mural activities are on offer and the main idea is to encourage participation of pupils in these and to identify their talents. Some of the more individual, small group or unusual activities are: surfing, tennis, squash, cross-country, water polo and clubs such as Crafty Chameleons, Experi-buddies, Computer Club, Eco Club and the offering of various musical instruments including the rock band. Traditional sports are offered at some level of competition but a swimming and an Atlantic beach culture has always been dominant. Many of the school buildings have been built through hard work from school family fundraising drives and therefore a collaborative school-parent approach to developing the school, its discipline, sports coaching, cultural, physical and spiritual – thus creating caring, mature pupils who are able to take their place in the high school of their choice and transporting pupils, community and eco-awareness ventures have been fostered and favoured all these years. This ‘develop the child in his/her community’, ‘parent and teacher, side by side’ approach has been regarded as the pattern for optimum nurturing and development of the pupils at our school.

The active drive to enlarge class sizes and the introduction of traditional sports played at a competitive level, a more rigid structured discipline system and the adherence to a full school academic syllabus, as well as a regimented approach to the correct wearing of the school uniform, have been introduced in the last 10 years. This has been introduced in the hope of making Llandudno fall more in line with larger Southern Suburb schools so that it may actively compete with their pupils in academics, sport and in high school placement. Ultimately, the partial switch to this last set of traditional school concepts and values is where we need to aim to focus and to find a happy-medium of combining what we believe to be our Llandudno culture and the need for a more formal school environment and teaching approach as in other WCED schools.
