Llandudno School Private Extra-Murals
Over and above the school sports offered, we are able to offer privately paid for extra-murals, should parents wish their children to attend. These cannot replace school sports and school sports must take preference.
The following activities take place on our school premises:
Drama, Art, Ballet, Gymnastics, Computer and Robotics Club, Crafts, ExperiBuddies, Foundations For Life, and Modern Dancing.
A fully equipped and functions Music Department is also offered within the school day at an extra cost.
Remedial Therapist
Jo Labouchere started working with students at Llandudno Primary in 2012. Since then, she has worked with many students and their families at the school. She is often referred to by students as ‘their dyslexic teacher’.
Jo qualified as a teacher in 1996 and has been teaching ever since. Jo completed her MEd in Specific Learning Difficulties with the Open University, London. Her main interest was children who struggled with Dyslexia and ADHD.
Jo uses a variety of different programmes and multisensory methods to work with students assisting them with reading, writing, spelling and sometimes numeracy. Jo finds it rewarding to see the students mastering coping strategies and unlocking their potential.
Sports Hub
Sports Hub is revolutionising coaching at Llandudno Primary and in South Africa through their specialised sports coaching program that functions as a “Sports Incubator” for Foundation Phase students (ages 3– 9 years).
Henk Oosthuizen (Owner/founder) was involved in fundamental sports development at Llandudno since 2005. In 2017 he introduced Sports Hub at Llandudno with the aim of channelling each child’s sporting development through a variety of sports which the program provides .
In 2021 he assigned a new energetic and vibrant coach that has been part of Sports Hub for over 6 years with his team to take over the leadership and enhance each child’s sports competence at Llandudno Primary School.
Sports Hub coaches six popular South African school sporting disciplines: Tag Ruby, Netball, Soccer, Hockey, Cricket and Tennis.
The Sports Hub program is age and stage specific. Each program has clearly defined term and lesson specific outcomes to continuously move closer to our goal of developing confident, competent sports players.
We believe sport is like speaking many languages; the greater number of sports you are exposed to, the greater opportunities there are out there .
Drama
The Academy of Drama has been running at Llandudno Primary since 2005! Amy joined the team in 2007 and took over the running of the studio in 2014 as The Drama Hub and has loved being in the Hall on Monday afternoons over all these years.
Amy also teaches at Camps Bay Prep School, Greenfield Girls’ Primary School and The Hill Pre Primary School.
A typical Drama class incorporates storytelling, creative play and interpretation, poetry, role play and creative movement. They also have a showcase for Grade 1-7 once a year and an open class for Grade R parents to enjoy. Amy has a very set structure to her classes so that she can create a safe space for all children to feel secure and gain more confidence each week. Drama at Primary School level is all about gaining confidence and enjoying creative interpretation and play while developing excellent communication skills. The aim is to build confidence and inspire joy! They have a lot of fun while exploring their creativity and Amy is always amazed at how much the children grow and blossom in time. Drama is for the super confident child but is also for the extremely shy child. If you would like your child to try out a class, please feel free to contact Amy.

Crafty Chameleons
Crafty Chameleons offers fun, educational, creative and innovative arts and crafts classes for 4-12 year olds. The weekly classes are STEAM based, introducing kids to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths through exciting and innovative activities, such as games, spinning wheels and art masterpieces.
Classes are social, provide opportunities to explore different materials and teach important developmental and problem-solving skills. Crafty Chameleons’ hands-on arts and crafts lessons teach kids confidence, resilience and new skills along with great friendships. They focus on one or more Super Skills each week, such as bilateral integration or fine motor coordination, so kids are learning while exploring and creating exciting arts and crafts projects.
The extra-mural classes are one hour long and children get to take home a new art or craft project each week. They feel both excited and proud to show parents and siblings what they have made.
Karen Norman, Crafty Chameleons owner, is a qualified and experienced teacher, with a passion for teaching arts and crafts. She enjoys seeing each child’s creativity and confidence improve from term to term. Karen is encouraging, kind and makes every class fun for the kids.

Occupational Therapy
Tamar Ocadia’s therapy practice has provided a therapy service at Llandudno Primary for the past 10 years and Nicola is the dedicated therapist for the school. She offers weekly individual Occupational Therapy sessions onsite at the school. This allows her to work closely with our teachers in addressing the children’s needs and ensuring they are supported in the classroom. She focuses on a range of different developmental skills that a child may be struggling with to help support their academic progress. Areas focussed on include handwriting, visual-spatial skills, fine motor and gross motor development, midline crossing and the development of postural control. She works from a sensory integration framework, which means that she looks at how a child processes sensory information from their own body as well as their environment that can have an impact on behaviour/emotions and concentration. This includes difficulties regulating oneself such as hyperactivity/sensory-seeking behaviour and sensory sensitivities. She builds self-confidence in her therapy children so that they can be the best versions of themselves both in and out of the classroom.
